The month of July turned out to be a great one for DailyRounds. I was in Boston to meet Dr. Micheal Gibson, Harvard Professor in Cardiology and founder of WikiDoc (The evidence based Wikipedia of Medicine). He is a renowned author / publisher of 1000+ manuscripts.
Contrary to the perception I had about senior doctors being quite skeptical about how mobile/internet technology can leverage medicine and healthcare, Dr.Gibson turd out to be well-informed and up to date in the subject. But then, who was I kidding! He is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Wiki Doc, the world’s largest medical textbook/encyclopedia with over 30,000 pages and over 7000 registered contributors. He also founded www.clinicaltrialresults.org and has served as medical lead in partnerships with the likes of Google, Microsoft and Yahoo. He has led his own Academic Research Organization(PERFUSE) for 27 years and has rightly been listed as one of America’s top doctors by U.S News & World Report for years.
A few minutes into our conversation, and it became obvious that WikiDoc and DailyRounds had much in common, principle and content wise. WikiDoc strives to provide an open source textbook of medicine for doctors around the world. It is edited and updated by an active community of contributing doctors. We at DailyRounds are working towards building the same kind of a community of doctors who want to share and publish interesting clinical cases and medical images that rare great learning tools.
WikiDoc and DailyRounds represent the two methods that doctors use to gain and update their knowledge – text books for learning the theory and clinical cases, for applying the knowledge they have acquired from textbooks.
Now, the good news for our readers and users – RailyRounds and WikiDoc are joining hands to bring you the latest and most recent updates from the medical world. We are excited about building a partnership that will see new advancements in how doctors use mobile technology in their daily professional lives. The official announcement of the partnership will be made next month.
Meanwhile, lets get to sharing more cases!
