Another Christmas season has come around and it’s a time for sharing- meaning giving and receiving not just gifts but also friendship. When it comes to gifts, here are certain things the Indian doctors would earnestly wish for the man from North Pole to bring them.

No unjustified claim of medical negligence, ever.

Seriously. It’s arguably the most demoralizing thing for someone to claim negligence when you have done your absolute best to help a patient. So, if Santa is listening, this should be right there on the top of the list.

Reasonable number of working hours every day

You don’t have to be a doctor to understand that over-working brings down your efficiency. And when you are dealing with patients-as in real people who need help, nothing less than the optimal performance is welcome.

More investment on the health sector by the government

About 1.3% percent of the GDP is all the public spend on healthcare in India. This results in poor infrastructure-particularly in the government sector. The effect is multi-pronged: 1)It puts decent healthcare out of the reach of many individuals, especially the poorest. 2)It makes an overwhelming number of people seek care at private institutions which makes the doctors’ work hours longer. 3)The nation lags on many health metrics in which we could improve provided we have a better public investment.

A gadget that creates a force field around you so you don’t get beaten by random people

More and more, being a doctor in India is becoming a dangerous profession. People seem to be under the impression that getting medical help is like buying anything else- say, sugar. ‘If I pay for the 2 kg. sugar, I must get the 2 kg. sugar’, so goes their logic. So, if I pay for ‘proper results’ from the treatment and I don’t get it, I beat you up!
Someone should tell them that that’s not how it works.Or Santa can bring the aforementioned gadget.

Designer doctor’s apron for all doctors!

This wish comes from the most fashion-conscious in the medical field.
