• Over the last 6 months, at least 20 incidents of Doctors being attacked by patient’s relatives have been reported. Unreported cases could be even more.
• In one of the latest incidents, a senior Gastroenterologist from Allahabad was attacked inside the ICU premises because of death of a serious patient.
• A duty doctor in Panvel was also attacked recently for the death of a patient, later it was found out that the doctor was not even involved in treating the patient.
• Before that doctors staged a massive protest in Delhi protesting the attack on one of their colleagues.
• Attacks like these and many more have created an air of fear in the minds of doctors all over the country.

“Doctors can guarantee best treatment, but doctors cannot guarantee 100% results.”

It is becoming impossible for doctors to work under so much fear. A fearless environment must be created for proper health care delivery.

“People who attack doctors should be called terrorists because they are creating a terror in the minds of doctor against good work.”

Stringent laws should be made to save the doctor from these unruly elements and punishment should be given as that given to a terrorist. However, doctors have raised their voice to make one rightful demand – safety and protection to carry on their job and serve the society.

“We will be getting the online petition of around 1 lakh doctors and submit our grievances to Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi to look into the issues and enable stricter laws and implementation”
