There seems to me no abatement in the number of dengue and chikungunya cases in Delhi. The upswing in numbers has seen the doctors-lesser in number struggling to find time for all the patients.

  • The central zone of South Delhi Municipal Corporation is the worst affected this year
  • Special “camps” have been set up in many hospitals for such cases. Government has started 355 “fever clinics” inside hospitals.
  • Overwhelming number of patients have the doctors in a fix
  • Lesser number of doctors, nurses and beds while hundreds turn up at hospitals every day with symptoms
  • The staff shortage is so bad that even children are asked to hold the bottle when IV is administered

Some of the mohalla clinics have also come under criticism, with patients claiming that medical records are sorted manually and not digitally. The lack of space in such facilities also makes the patients’ lives harder-having to wait for their turn outside under the sun.
