• With no provision for promotions, rural doctors are said to retire in the same post they joined in
• The Rural Medical Officers(RMO) cadre was created by the Punjab government in 2006, so that doctors would be available in rural Punjab
• The RMOs get neither promotion nor do they merit a quota in PG studies. However, sitting PCMS doctors avail both these benefits
• It’s said that though these doctors were hired in 2006, their services were regularized in 2011. Though entitled to dynamic assured career progression(DACP) at 4,9 and 14 years of service, five years since regularization they haven’t received the benefit
• GK Singh, the rural health director has said that the process is underway to bring the DACP benefits to RMOs and also open a promotion channel
