Chief Medical Officer (CDMO) of New Delhi District initiated a crackdown on quacks and carried out raids against five clinics in Dwarka area.

Complaints were received by the locality against five quacks operating in the area by the South District Chief Medical Officer (SDCMO). Soon, Delhi Medical Association (DMC) came into action and ordered the raids.

Dr Anil Bansal, chairman, anti-quackery cell in DMC, led a four-member team and when the team reached the address provided by locals, two quacks were caught while three others fled the spot. Complaint were lodged against five, Gupta, S Kumar and three unknown quacks.

Dr Bansal said the quacks were found prescribing allopathic medicine, mostly banned steroids, which are sometimes procured illegally to increase muscle mass and immediate improvement in health condition with many side effects.

“During the raid on one of the clinics run by ‘doctor’ Gupta, styled as Bengali Clinic, the raiding team noticed blatant violation of rules. He being a class XII pass, has no proper degree to practice medicine,” says Dr Anil Bansal.

Another person, S Kumar, was using allopathic drugs, including antibiotic injections and steroids and were recovered from the clinic.

Quacks were also found to have no qualification whatsoever to be practitioners of Indian medicine (Ayurvedic, Sidha, Tibb, Unani) homeopathy or naturopathy. But they were posing as practitioners of integrated medicine, alternative systems of medicine, electro-homeopathy, Indo-allopathy, which do not exist in any law.
