Chart of schedule issued by supreme court

After hearing a counsel on 24/03/2015, the Supreme court of India stipulated a new time schedule to initiate the academic year 2015-16 for all  medical and dental postgraduate courses throughout the country. The new schedule was passed considering the counselling dates of various states and 3rd counselling by all India entrance exam. It states that all postgraduate academic session should commence on 30th May 2015. Last date of joining for a postgraduate through all India entrance is May 30th and 8th of June through state quota.

Following counselling, various colleges had their own admission dates and commencement of academic sessions. A wave of uncertainty was being formed among the students . Considering the confusions occurring across the country with postgraduate joining dates, a group of advocates made a petition to the supreme court. Upon hearing the petitioners, the supreme court issued a chart stating that “ It should be obeyed by all the states in letter and spirit. The Medical council of India(MCI) shall also send a copy of the order passed today by appropriate process to the concerned authorities of the states by forwarding a letter so that there should be no deviation by any authority.” Supreme court also advised that the MCI and the Director of General Health Services for Union of India should frame a proper time schedule hereafter from the next academic session starting 2016-17. The honourable court mentioned that all the states are bound to co operate with the MCI and Union of India failing which serious actions will be considered.

After the hearing report by Supreme court, MCI released a new circular. The circular is addressed to all the Secretaries in Health & Medical education, all DME’s and the Dean/ Principal’s of all medical colleges/postgraduate institutions. The notice states that as per the decision made by the Honourable Court the above addressed should abide the chart and conduct the academic session 2015-16 as mentioned.

The right path has been shown by the Supreme court. Hope the same is initiated by the concerned bodies in the right earnest.
